COOLSCULPTING® OVERVIEW
Fat removal surgery such as liposuction has been around for many years. However, modern engineering has allowed the innovative, non-surgical fat reduction treatment called “CoolScupting®” to gain notoriety.
Dr. Mountcastle, double board-certified plastic surgeon, is proud to offer CoolSculping® at his MedSpa in Ashburn, Virginia. It is a non-surgical procedure that targets freezes and eliminates fat cells using a cooling process. Once the fat cells are frozen, natural cell death occurs and they are naturally eliminated from the body. CoolSculpting® permanently reduces areas of stubborn fat in areas such as the abdomen, love handles, bra pads, upper arms, thighs, and even the double chin.
AM I A CANDIDATE FOR COOLSCULPTING®?
Because CoolSculpting® is completely non-invasive, it is an ideal body contouring solution for individuals who are apprehensive about needles or surgical procedures. CoolSculpting® treats areas of subcutaneous, “fluffy” fat. As a general rule: if you can pinch it, we can treat it! Patients treated with CoolSculpting® should maintain their weight to ensure lasting results. Here at Mountcastle MedSpa and Laser Center, we CoolSculpt patients of all shapes and sizes. We offer complimentary consultations to meet with the patient and determine if CoolSculpting® is the best procedure to achieve the desired results. Our experienced, licensed practitioners are experts on CoolSculpting®, and have been performing CoolSculpting® for several years.
DURING/AFTER PROCEDURE
All CoolSculpting® procedures are performed in an accredited surgical facility (AAAASF certified). No anesthesia or numbing medication is necessary, due to the procedure’s pain-free process, and patients are immediately released to normal activity following treatment. Patients will begin to see results within several weeks. On average, it takes about two full months* for the most dramatic results to take shape due to frozen fat cells naturally dissolving from the body over time. Patients should adhere to a healthy diet and eating plan to help maintain results.
Depending on how many areas are being treated, patients usually spend part or most of the day here in our beautiful medspa. When you receive treatment with Coolsculpting® at Mountcastle MedSpa in Ashburn, VA, you will be free to comfortably read, relax, listen to music or enjoy entertainment on your personal tablet for the duration of the procedure.
PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE
During a CoolSculpting® procedure, the licensed CoolSculpting® practitioner will place the cooling applicator on the pre-marked area where the fat is to be treated. The device pulls the fat into the applicator where the freezing process will ensue. Patients will feel some mild pressure and suction. Each area is treated for 35 minutes, on average. Only mild discomfort is felt while the applicator is being attached. When each treatment is done, the practitioner will remove the applicator and perform a two-minute manual massage to the area which can be moderately uncomfortable. Luckily, it’s a fast two minutes and any discomfort subsides as soon as the massage is done.
For about a week following the procedure, patients will experience tenderness, swelling, and possible bruising in the treatment areas. Typically, reduction begins around 6-8 weeks post-treatment, with gradual and full results at 12-16 weeks. You will have a 12-week follow up with your practitioner in order to take post-treatment photos and to be reassessed for additional treatments.
RESULTS
Several days after your procedure, the treated fat cells will begin a cycle known as apoptosis, shrinking, and eventually being absorbed and eliminated by the body. The results of your CoolSculpting® procedure will be visible approximately two to four months after treatment and may continue to improve for up to six months. The average patient experiences a 15 – 25 percent* reduction of fat in the treated area. And while CoolSculpting® is non-invasive, the incredible results achieved with the CoolSculpting® technique are predicted to last as long as those delivered by liposuction.
