SKINCARE OVERVIEW
Over-the-counter skincare products tend to be easy to find and inexpensive (and sometimes NOT!), but professional skincare products are a more effective choice for most patients. Professional skincare products can only be found in medical offices, like Mountcastle Plastic Surgery in Northern Virginia, since they contain more potent ingredients that are more advanced, higher quality, and offer a better delivery system than over the counter skincare products. Plastic surgeon Dr. Timothy Mountcastle and his team of Aestheticians assess each patient’s skin and customize a ZO Skin Health regimen that targets and corrects skin concerns and conditions, as well as anti-age the skin in general. ZO Skin Health products are prescribed by our licensed Master Estheticians, and work wonderfully in conjunction with our Medspa procedures to ensure younger, more healthy skin.

Your Master Aesthetician will tailor a ZO SKIN HEALTH regimen to your specific skin concerns and conditions. Together you will go over each step and discuss what your customized regimen entails, what to expect, and how to use each product. Most corrective ZO regimens will cause a purposeful acute inflammatory response within the skin which results in a short-term period of sensitized and possibly flaky skin. This shows us that we have woken those skin cells up, and they are now starting to perform at optimal health as they were intended.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
The ZO principles of Skin Health Restoration go beyond the traditional approach of just treating diseased skin. They provide a more holistic approach to skin care. Skin should be fortified to renew, protect and strengthen itself to maintain healthy skin for life. The skin rejuvenation phase does consist of a period of “anticipated reactions,” and can include a few weeks of sensitized and/or flaky areas on the skin. We like to think of this as the soreness experienced after a hard workout! The principles are ideal for all individuals, regardless of age, skin type or gender and specifically focus on restoring skin’s strength and optimizing cellular functions to provide the best treatment outcomes and ability to achieve overall skin health restoration.

Everybody’s regimen is tailored to their skin concern and conditions, therefore every ZO regimen is different! Most of the products in any regimen will last anywhere from 10-14 weeks depending on how often each is used.
