Weight loss injections are specialized treatments designed to aid in weight management by providing targeted support for fat metabolism, energy production, and appetite regulation. Administered by trained professionals, weight loss injections offer a convenient and effective option for individuals seeking to supplement their diet and exercise efforts with personalized support for achieving their weight loss goals.
What Weight Loss Injections are Offered?
Semaglutide
Semaglutide, commonly known by the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy, is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that aids weight loss through weekly injections. Clinical trials have demonstrated its effectiveness in significant weight reduction when used alongside lifestyle changes, but users should discuss the risks and benefits with their healthcare provider.
Tirzepatide
Tirzepatide, commonly known by the brand names Mounjaro and Zepbound, is a novel medication undergoing clinical trials for obesity and type 2 diabetes, combining GLP-1 and GIP receptor actions. While promising preliminary data suggests significant weight loss and improved glycemic control, its long-term safety and availability are still being evaluated, advising individuals to consult with healthcare providers for updates and considerations.
How do I prepare for my consultation?
To prepare for your consultation, obtain a copy of your most recent lab work. Lab work older than six months is not accepted. If you do not have recent labs, you may choose to have them drawn in our office during your consultation.
Note that lab results will need to be reviewed before starting treatment.
If you see any specialists (i.e. cardiologists, endocrinologists, etc.) a medical clearance may be required before starting treatment. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your first appointment time to fill out the paperwork.

FDA Approval of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide as effective treatments for obesity and weight management in individuals who meet specific criteria. These medications represent significant advancements in the field of obesity treatment, offering new hope for individuals struggling with weight-related health issues.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for treatment with Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, patients must meet one of the following conditions:
- Body Mass Index (BMI) Greater Than 30:
- Individuals with a BMI of 30 or higher are classified as having obesity. This threshold is recognized as a significant risk factor for various health complications, making patients eligible for these medications.
- Body Mass Index Greater Than 27 with Related Comorbidities:
- Individuals with a BMI of 27 or higher, coupled with at least one weight-related comorbidity, are also eligible for treatment. Comorbidities include, but are not limited to:

- Individuals with a BMI of 27 or higher, coupled with at least one weight-related comorbidity, are also eligible for treatment. Comorbidities include, but are not limited to:
Mechanism of Action
Semaglutide
Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It works by mimicking the effects of the GLP-1 hormone, which is involved in regulating appetite and food intake. By enhancing the release of insulin, reducing glucagon secretion, and slowing gastric emptying, Semaglutide helps to control blood sugar levels and reduce appetite, leading to weight loss.
Tirzepatide
Tirzepatide is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist. It not only enhances the effects of GLP-1 but also stimulates GIP receptors, which play a role in glucose and lipid metabolism. This dual action provides a comprehensive approach to weight management by improving insulin sensitivity, reducing appetite, and promoting weight loss.
Clinical Benefits
Both medications have demonstrated significant clinical benefits in multiple studies:
- Weight Loss: Clinical trials have shown that patients using Semaglutide and Tirzepatide can achieve substantial weight loss compared to those on placebo.
- Improved Metabolic Health: These medications help improve various metabolic parameters, such as blood glucose levels, lipid profiles, and blood pressure.
- Reduced Risk of Comorbidities: By promoting weight loss and improving metabolic health, Semaglutide and Tirzepatide can reduce the risk of developing obesity-related comorbidities.
Treatment Process
For those approved for treatment, the process typically involves the following steps:
- Initial Consultation: An initial assessment with a healthcare provider to determine eligibility and discuss treatment goals.
- Monthly Monitoring: Regular in-office visits to monitor progress, adjust dosing, and address any concerns.
- Medication Administration: Patients receive their medication doses to self-administer at home, with detailed instructions and support available.
