Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be a safe and effective treatment for many women experiencing perimenopause and menopause symptoms when appropriately prescribed and monitored by a qualified healthcare provider. However, HRT is not right for everyone, and its benefits and risks depend on factors such as your age, medical history, symptoms, type of hormones used, dosage, and method of administration.
For some women, HRT may help relieve symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, and vaginal dryness. Potential risks vary depending on the treatment and may include blood clots, stroke, or certain cancers in specific circumstances.
At Mountcastle Medical Spa & Laser Center in Ashburn, VA, our Women’s Health team provides individualized evaluations to review your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals. We will discuss the potential benefits and risks of hormone therapy to help determine whether it may be an appropriate option for you.

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, when hormone levels, particularly estrogen, begin to fluctuate. It can start several years before menopause and may cause symptoms such as irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disturbances, brain fog, vaginal dryness, and changes in weight or metabolism. During perimenopause, pregnancy is still possible.
Menopause is officially reached when you have gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, provided there is no other medical explanation. It typically occurs between ages 45 and 55. After menopause, estrogen levels remain lower, and symptoms such as vaginal dryness, discomfort during intercourse, and sleep disturbances may continue.
At Mountcastle Medical Spa & Laser Center in Ashburn, VA, our Women’s Health program offers personalized evaluations to help women understand their symptoms and explore appropriate treatment options, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT) when medically indicated.
If you are experiencing changes in your menstrual cycle, persistent fatigue, hot flashes, sleep problems, or other symptoms of hormonal changes, scheduling an evaluation can help you better understand your stage of the menopause transition and determine the next steps in your care.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may help relieve a variety of symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause by replenishing hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, when appropriate. As hormone levels fluctuate and decline, many women experience physical, emotional, and sexual health changes that can affect their daily lives and overall quality of life.
Depending on your symptoms and individual health needs, HRT may help manage:
- Hot Flashes and Night Sweats: Reduce the frequency and severity of sudden feelings of heat and excessive sweating.
- Sleep Disturbances: Help improve sleep when nighttime hot flashes and other menopause symptoms interfere with rest.
- Mood Changes: Help alleviate certain menopause-related mood symptoms in some women.
- Vaginal Dryness and Discomfort: Relieve vaginal dryness, irritation, and discomfort associated with declining estrogen levels.
- Painful Intercourse: Improve discomfort related to vaginal tissue changes associated with menopause.
- Urinary Symptoms: Certain forms of vaginal estrogen may help relieve urinary symptoms associated with genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM).
- Changes in Sexual Comfort: Address vaginal and other genitourinary symptoms that may affect intimacy and sexual well-being.
- Bone Loss Prevention: Systemic HRT can help prevent bone loss and reduce fracture risk in appropriately selected women.
At Mountcastle Medical Spa & Laser Center in Ashburn, VA, our Women’s Health team provides personalized hormone health evaluations to understand your symptoms, review your medical history, and discuss appropriate treatment options. Your care plan may include hormone replacement therapy or other targeted treatments based on your individual needs.

You may benefit from an evaluation if you are experiencing irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, mood changes, brain fog, vaginal dryness, decreased sexual comfort, or unexplained changes in your overall well-being. You do not need to wait until menopause to seek help. An evaluation can help you understand your symptoms and explore appropriate treatment options.

Yes. All patients pursuing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) at Mountcastle Medical Spa & Laser Center are required to complete blood work as part of their initial evaluation. Laboratory testing helps your provider assess relevant health markers and hormone levels, when indicated, to support an individualized treatment plan and determine whether HRT is appropriate for you.
For your convenience, we offer in-office blood draws through our third-party laboratory partner, Access Labs. This is a self-pay option, and laboratory services are paid for out of pocket without billing or processing through insurance.
Alternatively, you may choose to have your blood work completed through Labcorp. If you select this option, we can collect your blood sample in our office and send it to Labcorp for processing. If you choose this option, you will work directly with Labcorp and your insurance provider to verify coverage, benefits, billing, and any out-of-pocket costs. Mountcastle Medical Spa & Laser Center does not manage insurance claims or billing related to Labcorp services.
During your Women’s Health evaluation, our team will explain the recommended laboratory testing and available options so you can choose the approach that best fits your needs.
